Dimitar Silyanovski – “The Forgotten” Professor and Theoretician of the Bulgarian Civil Procedure

The paper is dedicated to the person Dimitar Silyanovski (1892–1971) and focuses on some essential moments of his biography. He was a Bulgarian man of law, a Professor of civil procedural law, Dean of the Law Faculty, Rector of Sofia University “St, Kliment Ohridski“, and President of the Macedonian Scientific Institute. He is presented as a lawyer, a deputy prosecutor and a judge, but the main emphasis of the article is on his activity as a university lecturer and an academic. 

The paper offers an outline of his professional career and the challenges which he encountered in the academic environment. His theoretical views and his scientific achievements are enlisted, not only in the sphere of civil litigation, but also in other departments of law. The topic deals also with his public activity as a functionary of the cultural and educational organizations of the Macedonian Bulgarians after the First World War. Prof. D. Silyanovski was appointed President of the MSI in 1945. This work is an attempt to trace his place in the Bulgarian legal science and his contribution for the development of the Bulgarian civil procedure. 

The documentary material for the preparation of the article is based on his personal file, work documents and the published memoirs of his colleagues.
