The Great War represented a fundamental step for the constitution of the Balkan nation-states which had started in the nineteenth century.
Albanian national activists sought to find the means to collaborate with Bulgarians but this did not turn out to be an easy task. The internal dissent of the Albanian political elite, the variable attitude of Bulgarian politicians toward the Albanian question and the unfavourable evolution of the conflict, hindered the possibility to carry out an effective cooperation.
