(Summary)
The special role played by the Balkan Peninsula in the foreign policy of
the great powers at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries meant that public
opinion in Europe closely followed the events and processes taking
place there. This interest was clearly visible in Austria-Hungary, which
was particularly involved in the competition for spheres of influence in
this part of Europe. That is why the Polish press in Galicia also devoted
a lot of space to these issues. One of the most important newspapers in
Krakow was the daily “Czas”. Due to the pro-government orientation of
this newspaper, journalists informed readers in detail about all actions taken
by the imperial authorities. In the years 1903–1908, much of the space
on the pages of this daily was devoted to information about the reform
activities of the great powers in Macedonia. During this period, almost

300 articles devoted to these issues were published. Therefore, the “Czas”
newspaper can be considered an interesting source of knowledge about
the events, which took place on the Balkan Peninsula at that time.
