Prof. Yordan Zaimov (1921 – 1987), D. Sc. was born on April 23, 1921 
in the city of Sofia. He graduated in Slavic Philology at Sofia University “St. Climent Ohridski” in 1944. His teachers were one of the most 
brilliant scientists of their time. 
His exceptional linguistic training (he 
speaks eight languages) was the basis on which the scholar achieved his 
remarkable success in difficult linguistic disciplines such as etymology, 
onomastics and history of language. 
His scientific activity was entirely 
related to the Institute of Bulgarian Language at the Bulgarian Academy 
of Sciences. The article presents important stages of his life devoted 
to science, as well as the remarkable peaks of his multifaceted work. 
He will remain in the memory of future generations not only with his 
works, but also as an example of unconditional patriotism...
